Large and heavy cones are often used with transition-pieces and monopiles. In the Offshore and Renewable Energy sector in particular, there is an increasing demand in capacity for bending thick-walled steel. Kersten recently invested in extra cutting and bending capacity to meet that demand.
Cutting cone patterns
By dividing the gross plate efficiently, we cut multiple cone patterns from one plate, so that material wastage is limited and costs are saved. We use oxy fuel and plasma burners to cut out the cone cut-outs. These are immediately provided with a bevelled edge.
Rolling and setting
To bend thick-walled cones, we use a powerful 4 roller mill and a 2400T press braker. With these modern machines we can roll cones with a thickness up to 120 mm and we set sheets to 150 mm thick.
