The Kings’ College Nad Al Sheba Campus is new college complex to be built in Dubai, UAE. It will provide excellent education and facilities for the country’s growing young population. 

The school building complex is an architectural and educational landmark. The 20,000m2 building complex forms part of a broader site masterplan that includes an Olympic size swimming pool and playing fields. Kings’ College provides an early years centre and primary and secondary school accommodation for 1,200 students. 

To achieve a sustainable design, attention has been paid to developing systems that reduce energy, use water efficiently and improve environmental control.  Solar energy is being harnessed for hot water, while variable air volume systems will be used to ventilate and cool classrooms. A lightweight double roof structure with large overhangs help to minimise solar glare and overheating while allowing large glazed areas to let in natural light. The overhanging roofs also offer shading for external walkways and balconies.

Kings’ College will house three schools on one inclusive campus with a range of discrete and shared facilities. The early years centre will accommodate children aged from one to five, with innovative areas for discovery confined to a safe environment. The four form entry primary school will provide excellent and wide ranging facilities to support teaching and learning in preparation for the next phase, while the six forms of the secondary school will provide the ideal environment to prepare students for higher education.
